2008 Jeep Liberty Qualified For Off-Road Driving

Reviews of the 2008 Jeep Liberty’s off-road ability are starting to trickle in, and they are looking favorable.

As promised, the Hill Descent Control took over, slowing the Liberty to 1.5 mph via computerized braking to keep the trajectory straight and true. At the end of the slow-motion plunge, all I could see through the windshield was dirt as the Jeep declined at a precarious angle. Still, HDC held steady, returning my vista to its full upright position.

The rocky off-road course at Redbird State Riding Area southwest of Indianapolis made an apt proving ground for the next-generation Liberty. Covering 600 acres at the site of a former coal mine, the state park is designed specifically for off-roaders and all-terrain vehicles. In places, the hardwoods narrow the trail so tightly that I had to pull the Liberty’s side mirrors inward to avoid losing them.

It’s good to see that some of the new Jeep vehicles are being built for off-road, as well as on-road, inlike the Compass.
